Red maple trees do have green leaves. They are called red maples because the leaves turn brilliant red in the fall. Maples with summer deep reddish purple color are Crimson King Maple, or Ruby Red maple. And of course Japanese maples, many have red leaves, some have green or orange leaves.

A broadly oval form growing about 50 feet high and 35 feet wide. Leaves are similar to silver maple, but this cultivar has a more uniform growth habit, making it more resistant to storm damage. There are quite a number of Japanese maple trees that grow purple leaves. Some of these are: Tamukeyama. Sherwood flame. Atropurpureum. Ever red. Garnet. Burgundy lace. Best for USDA plant hardiness zones 4-8, Japanese maples grow a height of 15-25 feet.
Growth is slow to moderate, and the tree assumes a layered look with a low, dense, rounded top and spreading branches. The texture is medium to fine. Plant in dappled shade and evenly moist, well-drained soil, protecting it from drying winds. Leaves are 2 to 5 inches, opposite, and simple with five to nine lobes. Most are deeply lobed.
The Royal Red Maple is a Red Norway Maple variety that is similar to ‘Crimson King’ but with improved disease resistance and what some consider better coloring.
